How can I find my passion? This question gets brought up every time someone loses steam in life and needs some direction to find their next big thing. Far too often people find themselves doing a job they hate. You may find yourself going through life on auto-pilot waiting for the weekend so that you can enjoy your freedom from the shackles of the monotonous routine.
If this is you, then you need to listen up!
Life is too short not to enjoy what you’re doing, by discovering your passion in life you can take back control and shake up your world. But how can I find my passion you say? It’s simple and sometimes the most obvious. What is it that you enjoy doing? What section of the bookstore do you find yourself in? What do you do in your spare time? The activities you do for fun is a clear cut sign of where your passion lies.
Don’t be afraid of embracing what you love to do because of an idea that you can’t love your job. People often confuse work with a chore, and this is a flawed thought process. You shouldn’t work to live; you should live to work. Every morning you should be excited to get out of bed and tackle the day. The most successful people find themselves in fields that they love. To be the best in the world at something you have to be interested in your work, don’t fall into a rut and confuse a paycheck with living.
If what you do isn’t something you find full-filling you need to leave. Remove yourself from the situation and find something else. With the time off you can find something your passionate about. More often than not people will find this hard to do because they have what if syndrome. What if I can’t find a job, what if this and what if that? You can go on for days running down the list of doomsday scenarios, but you’ll soon realize that your calling will find you. If you only have the courage to step outside your comfort zone and take control of your destiny.
Here’s the deal.
You have to ask yourself if I was a millionaire today, what is it that I would be doing? The answer to that question is where you find your purpose and passion. No matter what it is you enjoy, you shouldn’t put a limit on your potential. Don’t conform to the template that life has laid out for you. There is nothing worst than becoming old and looking back at life in regret. What I shoulda, coulda, woulda done is just unacceptable. No person wants to have that what if moment and realize they had the opportunity to do something awesome but were too scared to go after it. Life is a lesson that’s taught daily, if something doesn’t work, learn from it and improve. You’ll never have all the right answers and that perfect moment is never going to exist, but if you wait too long, it will be too late.
Take control of your life and find your calling!
Write down a list of activities you enjoy, then write down a list of ways you can monetize them. Lastly, write down a list of things that come easily to you. The place where all these ideas intersect is your sweet spot. I promise you, your not the only one that enjoys that activity or hobby. You can quickly find a following that loves your work and is willing to pay you for your expertise. Often the things that come naturally to us are the things we overlook. Ask your friends and family your strengths, and they will surprise you with the answers they give you. Not only are you skilled in many areas, but you may also be an expert and not realize it.
It’s easier than you think.
You can open up a consulting firm, or do freelance working doing web design. The possibilities are endless only if you have the courage to break the mold and chase your dreams. When you look at what you’ve done 30 years from now, what is it that you want to say you’ve done? Whatever that conversation sounds like is the direction you need to head. Life is full of uncertainty, but one thing is for sure, if you don’t go after what you want, you can’t complain about never getting it.
