Knowing what you want in life is essential to your happiness and well-being. A sense of meaning, purpose, and satisfaction is what everyone craves. To know at the end of the day that you’re proud of your work and look forward to doing it again.
Now it’s different person to person, but the feeling is the same, happiness. It can be faked, but it can’t be replicated. We may lie to others saying that we’re pleased with our life, but ultimately we’re just lying to ourselves.
Finding your destiny and living out your dreams is what everyone should aspire to do. Whether it’s to run away and join the circus or ride a bicycle across the world. It’s your life and you only have one, so don’t squander it living a lie.
What is it that you want to do? When, where and with whom? These are questions that we should regularly ask ourselves, and evaluate the answers.
If the present looks far different from the perfect future, it may be time to step back and adjust.
Think of this vision like a GPS. If you were to jump in your car and tell the GPS, take me to where I want to go, you wouldn’t get anywhere. You have to be specific.
Set out short & long term goals for your health, wealth, and personal happiness. Create the perfect life in your head, now what does it look like?
Do you roll out bed check your phone and notice you made 1,000 dollars while you slept? Do you walk to the beach, take a swim in the ocean and drink your breakfast smoothie while basking in the sun?
Whatever your perfect life is, write it down, keep it close, and make sure it’s crystal clear. You already know what your perfect day looks like, so don’t be afraid to chase it. Someone out there already has done it, so why not you?
You shouldn’t be scared to break the chains of conformity to go after something audacious and invigorating. Don’t be content with meeting the status quo and blending in with the rest of society.
Live a life full of passion, excitement, and success. Do what you want, when you want, and with whom you want.
Just because your friends, parents, and co-workers think that your idea is crazy doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t pursue it. The people who often shoot down dreams are the ones who have none of their own. Be the exception and become the best version of yourself.
There’s a story of a scientist who placed five monkeys in a cage. He put nasty but adequate food at the bottom of the cage and sweet bananas at the top. He placed a ladder to reach the bananas and put a water hose aimed at the monkeys.
When a monkey would attempt to climb and get the bananas, the hose would spray soaking the rest of them. Eventually, they caught on and stopped each other from reaching the bananas.
The scientist then removed the hose and started to rotate in new monkeys until the original five were replaced. Each new one attempted to reach the precious fruit, and every time he would be dragged down by his peers.
Eventually, all were replaced and none of them attempted to reach for the bananas.
They conformed to their existence, stopped reaching for the bananas, and they didn’t know why.
This is what millions of people are doing all around the world. Merely existing, not going after the banana.
Don’t be the monkey, and don’t relegate your standards of success to your surroundings. If your dreams are bigger than your environment, get away. Leave the nest, stretch your wings and fly with the rest.
Yes, it’ll be scary, but it’ll be worth it. We always fear the unknown and many times we’re crippled by these ideas of our inadequacies. We sell ourselves short and chalk up excuses like the economy, lack of resources, or any other mixture of bullshit.
I’ll tell you something you already know. If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.
So don’t wander through life, wake up one day and realize everything that you’ve done doesn’t make you happy. The things we regret most in life are the actions we didn’t take. Be the exception and don’t become part of the walking of the dead. Snap out of it before it’s too late.
Life is too short to conform to your surrounding. Know what you want and go after it. Ultimately it’s your life so you might as well live it the way you want to. Do it before time runs out.
